How do I know if my child is ready for lessons?
We offer a complimentary interview to meet with the child and parents to assess if the child is ready to begin lessons. Recognizing the alphabet, numbers, having basic coordination, and being able to understand and follow instructions are some key determining factors. Most importantly, if the child displays interests then he/she is ready!
What if my child has a very short attention span?
It is absolutely normal and expected for children to have short attention spans. Weekly lessons are designed to be engaging and diverse. New music, technical & listening exercises, as well as theory material will be a part of every lesson.
When do I need to buy a piano?
If piano playing is going to be a serious hobby in your family, then having an acoustic piano as earliest as possible is important for instilling good technique and habits. Some prefer to wait one year to gauge how interested the child remains before making the investment – and that is perfectly fine too!
How do I know if piano is the appropriate instrument for my child?
You don’t! There is only one way to find out and that is to give your child that opportunity to explore what piano playing is about. The piano is considered a foundational instrument that any other instrumentalists, say a violinist at a level 10 (RCM) would need to fulfill a piano level 6 certification. So, if your child chooses to switch to another instrument, his/her piano education does not actually go to waste.
Can parents sit in the lessons?
Parents of younger children are encouraged to sit in the lesson to better help with practice at home. Some students perform better without the presence of their parents, in which case the parents are more than welcome to stay in the waiting area.
